The Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers

The official register of driving instructor trainers (ORDIT) this course has been designed to help approved driving instructors deliver a course to help potential driving instructors develop their skills. It is an ideal course for those who are looking to expand their business or bring new driving instructors into their business.

The course looks into all aspects of the driving instructors qualifying process but has a particular emphasis on part 3 training. It is helpful to all ready of undertaken the Cardington Special test for driving instructors or the Diamond Special Advanced Driving test but training is given as part of the course as required.

The course takes an in depth look at the examiners marking sheet (ADI26) and the training focuses on the development of teaching strategies that are marked for the test. It is essential that the potential driving instructor can demonstrate skills and understanding of the instructional techniques in the following categories and they are :

  • Level of Instruction
  • Planning
  • Control of Lesson
  • Communication
  • Q and A techniques
  • Feedback/Encouragement
  • Instructors use of controls
  • Attitude and approach to pupil

It is your job as a driving instructor trainer to help the PDI develop their skills in this area and I will give you examples and techniques that you can use. In addition to this the core competencies are fundamental and the development of the above techniques are essential in helping a PDI demonstrate they you can use the core competencies on their part 3 test of instructional ability.
